Roweena

Two years ago, I thought that every time I have my period, bleeding heavily and painfully at the same time is normal. For 3 straight days, I had to take some pain killer medicine every 3 to 4 hours. When it became intolerable, I immediately arranged an appointment with my gynecologist. To make sure it wasn’t cancerous, she suggested to do a biopsy and sonogram before a final diagnosis is made.

When we got the result, my gynecologist said I have 6 various sizes of fibroids. She recommended a hysterectomy as soon as possible. I was only 45 yrs. old at that time, and wasn’t ready to menopause and take hormone pills. Devastated, I opted not to have the procedure.

A few more months passed, the pain got worse. Upon mentioning to my boss and dear friend my condition, he told me about Dr. John Thomas who specializes in Uterus Fibroid Embolization (UFE)- a minimally invasive treatment for fibroid tumors of the uterus. I immediately emailed Dr. Thomas and he replied right away. He arranged for me an MRI first before seeing him. During the consultation, Dr. Thomas was able to answer all my questions. He thoroughly explained the UFE procedure with emphasis on what to expect. His words were very comforting that I agreed to schedule the UFE after a month.

The day came to check in at Methodist Hospital. My anxiety was cured because Dr. Thomas’s team was very impressive. They were very friendly and knowledgeable about the procedure. I was at the hospital at 7:00 AM and was ready to go home by 1:00 in the afternoon. In just 5 days after the procedure, I was able to go to work and do my normal routine without any discomfort.

I highly recommend Uterine Fibroid Embolization to every woman who has the same dilemma like mine. Unquestionably, I also give high praises to Dr. John Thomas who did an excellent work on my case. Thank you so much, Dr. Thomas! You made this 47-year old woman happy and pain-free!
