Uterine-Artery Embolization or Myomectomy for Uterine Fibroids NEJM 2020
A randomized comparison trial from the UK finds that Quality of Life is somewhat better 2 years after Myomectomy (84.6) than UFE (80.0)
The complication rate for UFE in this trail was shockingly high compared to our experience, making it similar to the Myomectomy group. The UFE group had including 1 access artery thrombosis and 14 infections...we have seen 2 infections after UFE in 21 years and have never had an access artery thrombosis.
Also, the mean LOS for UFE was 2 days. Our LOS is almost 0 as 98.5% of patients go home same day.
