There are many resources on the Internet that pertain to uterine fibroids and the treatment options available to women who have them. Here are a few of them:

Uterine Fibroid Embolization

SIR The Society of Interventional Radiology. Not only will you find information on UFE but they have a searchable database that allows you to locate a radiologist near you who performs UFE.

Uterine Fibroids: The National Institute of Health's Library of Medicine

The National Women's Health Information Center page on fibroids

Embo Group. This is a discussion group where patients and physicians communicate about UFE via posts. Many of the posts are from women who have had UFE, many from women who are considering it. You will find that some patients are delighted with the results, and others are not. Physicians frequently add their two cents to the discussions. It is easy to subscribe to the group and it is free.

Uterine Fibroids Group. Another discussion group. Broader in scope than the Embo group, this group is for those interested in researching and discussing all methods of treatment for uterine fibroids. Also easy to subscribe to and free.

Central Texas Exablate: MRI guided focused ultrasound (MRIgFUS) is a completely non-invasive way to treat fibroids. While most women with fibroids can be treated with UFE, only about 30% can be treated with Exablate. But if you are a candidate it is the least invasive approach. Also, while most insurance policies cover UFE very few cover MRIgFUS. There is no Exablate in San Antonio; this one in Austin is the closest.

Sex, Lies, and Uterine Fibroids: One woman's journey with the symptoms of fibroids, recognition of the problem, rejection of the advice that surgery was her only option, and discovery of UFE.
